“I believe that through knowledge and discipline, financial peace is possible for all of us” – Dave Ramsey

We’re 7 months into our Debt Free Journey and here’s our progress

WOW. Can’t believe it’s already fall 2017.

Our September’s total debts came in at $118,106, one of our best months ever since we started tracking our repayments last March.  Our August total debt was $120,625 for a total reduction of $2,519.

This was due to working a side gig and being able to plug in $500 extra and applying it towards this stinking debt 🙁

We feel like we’re starting to get traction and hope to sustain this momentum going forward since we have a tremendous uphill climb, but we feel it’s very doable and it’s just a matter of focus.

AUGUST 2017 NUMBERS

SEPTEMBER 2017 NUMBERS

LAST SEPTEMBER’S GOAL UPDATES

O.T.   –  I was hired full time starting September 1st and I’m afraid since I’m salary I lost this perk. But the good news is, since I’m no longer contracting, I have full benefits which include yearly paid time off totaling 32 days. With that I believe I can dedicate some time to working a side hustle to earn extra and allocate towards debt repayment, we shall see.

MONETIZING – well, nothing happened in September, I’ve been promoting and all but I guess it takes time. I’m going ahead with my intention to invest in a Tailwind subscription to attract more page views and hopefully followers; but in the meantime, I’m focusing on posting quality content that will serve my audience whoever and wherever they are.

FREEBIES – I finally finished my eBook ‘The Ultimate Guide To Buying Your First Home which I have on my home page, I’m asking for an email sign up though so hopefully it’s not too much of a deal breaker for anyone.  It’s choc-full of great tips that I think will provide value for first time home buyers of any age. The link is here  , please check it out.

GOALS FOR THIS MONTH

KEEP TRACKING OUR SPENDING – Did I mention that Personal Capital is the bomb!!!! It really is. I prefer using it now from mint, It just gives a better snapshot of your financial picture, plus it allows me to track my 401K account from my previous employer which I rolled over to a Wealth front account, MINT, unfortunately did not let me do that, hence the switch.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – One of my goals is to read at least 2 books a month, last month I was able to read through Michael Lewis ‘Boomerang’  an interesting study of how greed played into the decisions of financial governments in and around the European Union that ultimately contributed to the collapse of economies which included Greece, Iceland and Ireland to name a few.

Another great book I’ve read is Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin’s ‘Your Money Or Your Life’ ; a real eye opening look of how we as consumers unseemingly are oblivious of how we trade away time or ‘our life’ in pursuit of earning money.

It simplifies the equation time equals money and unpacks it in a way that shows us the real essence of what we’re giving up, our ‘life essence’ and a large part, the planet’s and how we trade it in return for consumption of goods that ultimately steal our life and contribute to the planet’s degradation.

INCREASING PAGE VIEWS – One of the things I’ll need to focus on is to grow my relationships with other like-minded FI ‘Financial Independence’ bloggers to get a chance of learning how they grew their audience and maybe ask for tips on how to improve my site, content and overall message. The best thing about being part of this community is that it’s just what it is, a community of like-minded, helpful individuals that seek to bring out the best and be of help to others.

I’ve only signed up for a few Facebook groups but by far, the best and most helpful group I’m part of is Bobby Hoyt’s ‘Millennial Money Man’ group, both groups for that matter. You’ll find folks who’ve been there, done that helping out newbs like myself and everyone else in between.

It’s just a genuine, helpful community of readers who give great tips and provide a whole lot of encouragement, they’re really the BEST!!! Kudos to you Bobby and the group admins!!!

WRAPPING UP

We’re really encouraged to see that we’re finally making progress in our debt free journey; our focus now is to maintain the momentum and be able to see this through, the sooner the better.

By continuing to put our best foot forward, being consistent, and not giving up, Moira and I believe we’ll eventually get to our goals, and be better for it as we journey there, thanks to great resources, people, groups, and communities who inspire, motivate and help us along our way.

Thank you All, you are Awesome!!!

    • Thanks so much Kendall. Yes, it’s an uphill climb but we’re determined 🙂 appreciate your encouraging words and yes, Personal Capital is in my opinion, one if not the best money trackers out there. Cheers.
